Business Manager

St. Lawrence Catholic Church & School is seeking a Full-Time, Exempt Level Business Manager at our campus on the east side of Indianapolis. This is an onsite role, Monday – Friday. 

The Business Manager oversees the temporal goods of the Parish according to the model of Jesus Christ as well as Church law and civil law. This role performs business accounting and leads bookkeeping staff, is responsible for the maintenance and facilities functions, and works with the Information Technology Coordinator of the Church & School.       

This position will also supervise Parish Support Staff and Parish Maintenance Staff and Volunteers.

Responsibilities:

The Business Manager will provide leadership and support in the following areas:

Business of the Parish

  • Carry out the Pastor’s responsibilities for the temporal goods of the Parish. Serve on Finance Council.
  • Oversee Accounting, Facilities, Maintenance, Human Resources, Technology on behalf of the Pastor.
  • Understand and work with the guidelines of the Archdiocese of Indianapolis.
  • Understand and work with local and state government regulations.
  • Staff contact for HR, manage work and position responsibilities for other staff.

Accounting

  • Track Accounts Receivable and Payable in Software.  Perform bank reconciliation.    
  • Manage the payroll process by having a thorough knowledge of the payroll system.
  • Invoice approval and assigning the appropriate accounts for the expense.
  • Budget development in collaboration with the school principal, finance, and help with large fundraising events, Fr. Beechem, and Annual Raffle.
  • Understand the Indiana Gaming laws and implement procedures for events.
  • Provide Annual Report to the Parish, Annual report to the archdiocese.
  • Organize Annual stewardship campaign and Capital campaigns as they occur.

Maintenance, Facilities and Technology

  • Ensure compliance with all archdiocesan safe environment training and practices for the staff and parishioners.
  • Lead Church maintenance staff, help with school as needed by the principal.
  • Collaborate with the school and the IT representative to ensure technology needs are met.
  • Proactively watch the campus for anything that may need repair, meet with contractors, obtain quotes, follow project to completion. 

Security

  • Work with 3rd party vendors for Video, Burglar, and Automated key pads.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Adheres to internal control policies, guidelines and procedures around all financial and accounting activities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software, specifically Excel.
  • Proficiency/experience with PDS Church and Ledger software is helpful.
  • Proficiency with basic office equipment.
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information and able to use discretion.
  • Ability to organize, manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously, and meet deadlines.
  • Eagerness to foster the Church’s mission.
  • Ability to communicate in Spanish and Haitian Creole is helpful and preferred.

Education, Training and Experience

  • BA/BS in accounting or business or 5 years of experience as a business manager or equivalent position.  Experience in the Archdiocese is preferred. 
  • Must be able to have background check successfully completed and approved by Archdiocese.
